Hi Josie,

I would recommend to anyone visiting Victor Harbor to take the Cockle Train to Goolwa like you did. A nice daytrip would be to leave mid morning and have a look around the train station area when you arrive. You could than have lunch at Hectors which is right on the River Murray and enjoy the views and seafood. Spaghetti Vongelle seemed to be the favorite dish - with local cockles. I had the Fisherman's Basket. If you want a drink the Distillery is quite close or you could have a walk along the wharf and river front. In the afternoon you can then return to Victor Harbor on the Cockle Train for a very relaxing and low key day.

Yes, Venice is an amazing place to just wander. We enjoyed the smaller laneways away from the crowds much more than the main thoroughfares. And you are right - you can't get too lost on an island :-)

The Canadian Rockies are the most beautiful place I think I've ever been to! There are some close seconds, but I was just blown away! There is so much to do and see though. My daughter keeps saying she might like to move back to Vancouver, and I am all for it - just so I have another really good excuse to go and explore more!

Happy to help if I can with any questions you might have :-)

In reply to <a href="https://josiewanders.com/travel-diaries-alaskan-cruise/#comment-5144">Lisa Kelly</a>.

Hi Lisa.

Glad to hear you found my post useful. We were okay with the inside cabin - we really were only in it to sleep. I booked another cruise about six months later (also with HAL. I've now booked a third with them in 2023!) and again went for the inside cabin. But I guess it depends what you prefer. I'm an active traveller, so I always want to be up doing things. If you prefer to relax in your cabin, then one with a window may be better.

As for budget - we travelled in Aug/Sept 2019 and paid $3091AUD for two.

Good luck with whatever you choose. I'm sure you will have a great time regardless, Alaska is amazing!

Love your blog BTW - there's a lot I relate to there :-) I was reading your about page to check you were from Oz since my memory can be a bit dodgy and I found myself nodding along. We've been married the same amount of time, and I'm still almost an empty-nester too. Feel free to hit me up if you are ever in SA.
