Thanks Jonno. We're back to a little more reality now. Hubby is back at work, but he has an amazing job that allows a lot of time off, so we will still be travelling regularly. Hopefully it would be too much longer and we will be on the road (or at least have the option to be) permanently. Enjoy your travels.

Sounds like a wonderful adventure Josie, and age has absolutely nothing to do with it. We left everything behind over 4 years ago for a similar adventure and are still going. And we're now in our late 50s. So have the time of your lives.

Hi Josie
Don’t know if you will even remember this eager. Bookcrosser but I am really delighted to find your “Wanders” page. So much resonates with this Octogenarian who has travelled a little and really enjoyed this - pretty much thanks to BXing.
Keep writing and I’ll keep reading.
Warm regards from Sherlock Fan.

Go for it I say! Even if you take one year off now you have another 20-30 to work on retirement. Maybe your work will let you have twelve months off like my husband's has and you will still have that security.

What a fabulous post :) And much of what you've said resonates with me as well - I don't have kids but I *am* in my early 40s and I have been working in my firm for coming up to 20 years ...

Sometimes I worry about whether jumping ship now and doing the travelling that I want to do will affect my retirement and I'll be a poverty-stricken pensioner ... but equally a) who says I'll even live that long, and b) surely it's better to enjoy yourself and do things while you still can, rather than hope that you'll be able to do them later?!

And yes, people have a very varied sense on what to spend their money on. I don't drive, don't have a TV, and live alone (so household bills are really low for me); I couldn't do what I do if I were living in what society might consider a 'normal' situation.

But normality is both overrated and doesn't exist :D
