At the end of each month I am going to send out a summary of the highlights of the month. I will tell you about any travel bargains I’ve found and update you on our plans for upcoming trips and activities.

November saw the birth of this blog and website. It has been a huge learning curve for me as the first time I have attempted anything like this. The learning will be going on for quite a while, as I keep improving the website.

Along with the blog, I have set up social media accounts. This has been more learning, as apart from Facebook, I’ve not really used any other social media platforms. If you don’t already, please follow me on any of the below

For travel, we spent a weekend close to home in Victor Harbor right at the end of October. I wrote about some of the things we got up to while there in “Things to do on a Weekend Escape to Victor Harbor”

We took a day trip into the Adelaide hills and visited historical Hahndorf. It’s been years since we’ve been up there, and it was a very enjoyable – if a little wet – day. Read about it in “Hahndorf – A German Gem in South Australia”

I also spent five days on the Gold Coast with my daughters for the AASCF National Cheerleading and Dance Championships. While mostly busy with the competition, we did manage to get out and about a little, so look out for some future posts.

There are no plans for travel in December at this stage. With the Christmas season there will be lots of local events. We do have a booking to spend the night in the Adelaide CBD on the night of my work Christmas party. It is also my last month working at my 9-5 job, before leaving to plan our upcoming trip and organise the home front for the time we are away.

Talking about our 2017 trip – from April we will be heading off for twelve months of travel. So far all I have organised are some of the flights on our way over. When we leave Adelaide we will firstly be heading to Sydney for a few days before Singapore then finally Oslo. All those flights are booked now except the first one from Adelaide to Sydney. Our children are meeting us in Oslo to travel with us for the first month, and I’ve finally organised their flights over and back.

I’ve also now booked our first accommodation – three nights in Amsterdam. I have been struggling to find accommodation in both Oslo and Amsterdam that is within my budget. I came across a deal for Ibis Budget Amsterdam South, a new hotel that is not even open yet. It opens in December and had a sale to promote it. It’s just outside of the city centre, but right next to a metro station, and at only slightly over $200AUD per night for four of us, its cheaper than any hostel or AirBnB I’ve seen.

For this booking I tested out for the first time. I love that the booking we made is fully cancellable up until just before we travel. The payment is not taken from our credit card until then either. We have now set up an affiliate partnership with them to help us with our travels. At no extra cost to you, any bookings made through this link will give us a few extra dollars instead of it going to a big booking company.

That’s it for November! Have a great December, enjoy your holidays, and I’ll bring you my next update in early 2017.
