At the end of each month I am going to send out a summary of the highlights of the month. I will tell you about any travel bargains I’ve found and update you on our plans for upcoming trips and activities. Here is the summary for December – the month the jacarandas bloom in Adelaide.

Happy New Year!

December is always a busy month in our house. The kids always have multiple end of year events they need to be at, and we have work Christmas parties, sports Christmas get togethers and, well, sometimes just a get together because we can! At this time year in Australia, an excuse is really not needed to bring out the BBQs and backyard cricket or meet up down at the local!

Early in the month we spent a night staying at the Hilton Adelaide overnight rather than making our way back home after my work Christmas party. We got to walk around the Adelaide CBD on our way to the party to take in some of the Christmas decorations put up around the streets. To see what we thought of the Hilton, please head on over to OurWorldinReview.

The only other travel I did during the month was a work trip to Bordertown in South Australia. Bordertown is so called because it is close to the state borders of Victoria and South Australia, on the main highway between Adelaide and Melbourne. There’s not a whole lot to see there, and since I was there for work, I pretty much saw the office during the day then the local pub for dinner!

Talking about work, I now officially finish up with my office job on January 6th. Yes, only four more working days. Then its full on into planning for our travels. Our kids will be staying in our home, so we don’t have to completely pack it up. Even so, there is still a lot to be done around the house too.

The only booking I have made for our trip during December was for Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. I have been wanting to swim in the infinity pool on their rooftop for years. So I decided that we would have two nights of luxury here before the budget travel we will mostly be doing for the rest of the trip. I had been looking at prices for months, but finally booked through for S$986. This was by far the best price I had seen. It also has free cancellation, so if I do find a better price, I can change my booking. Perfect for a cheapskate who always wants the best deal!
